The Global Orchestration System: definition and six essential characteristics

Six characteristics are essential. A system missing any one of them may be a useful tool; it is not a GOS.

One multi-party record

A single operational record of the order runs from release to receipt, and every party, buyer, seller, forwarder, consolidation operator, consignee, works on that record through a role-appropriate view.

Event propagation

A change entered once reaches every view and every connected system that depends on it, without human re-keying.

Assigned action

Every material signal therefore generates work, not news: a task with a named owner, a visible impact, a deadline, and a decision to take.

Enforced handovers

Each handover between firms carries explicit acceptance criteria, and a handover that fails them becomes an exception with an owner rather than a discovery for later.

Cross-boundary accountability

Every change is attributed to the party that made it, in an audit trail all parties can see. Silence is a signal too.

Governed autonomy

Automation, including AI agents, acts only on validated, propagated data and only within decision rights the governance model defines.
